Woodland Tulip – Tulipa sylvestris

April12 (1024x768)We don’t grow these tulips in the woods, as their common name suggests they would be most at home, but contrarily on the Strip Bed.    No actual stripping goes on here, as far as I am aware, strip refers (rather blandly) to the shape of the border.  It  is a long ribbon bed, one side at chest height (for me anyway) and the other at ground level, bearing in mind it is largely a terraced garden.  This creates an ideal showcase for smaller plants which could very easily get lost elsewhere including, but not exclusively, rockery plants.  It is also a favorite night time playground for our vole population who love undermining the plants, eating roots and bulbs, bless them (I’ve got my fingers crossed!).
