We all love brown. Today a trailer load of scrumptious steaming mushroom compost arrived. Unusually for a delivery it was a beautiful day so it was almost pleasant unloading and distributing the bags in the dry. There are few things more delicious than manhandling precarious bags of manure in the pouring rain with a queue of traffic slowing forming in both directions on the hill, the occupants in varying degrees of agitation from Total Chill to Gasket Blown. We then barrowed and carried the bags around the garden, up and down steps and hills. It isn’t a chore as this stuff is as good as gold to us and will enrich our thin and worn out soil which is looking especially thin and parched after the last couple of months of drought. We might even get a few mushrooms.
