This bee was having a long feed today making the most of a gap in the rain. When I was a girl (and sometimes even now) I used to snap the top off a fuchsia flower and suck out the sweet nectar. This is Fuchsia “Lechlade Magician”. One of the most striking things about this fuchsia is that it has sky blue pollen. I think you can just about see this on the hanging stamen. Other plants with blue pollen include Fuchsia procumbens, phacelia and rosebay willowherb. Apparently it has caused some bee keepers consternation. I’m not sure if this is one of Betsey’s’ new bees, perhaps she will recognise it.
