Cuphea cyanea

A fine and productive day in the garden today with all hands on board, making the most of the good weather before the forecast deluge of the rest of the week. As reward we shared a melon which although not quite ripe enough was fragrant and tasty. The variety we grow is called Collective Farm Worker which may not be the most romantic of names but appealed to me. It was bred in eastern europe and therefore is supposed to be a good plant for cooler climes. So far we have only had three fruit so it has not been terribly productive but to be honest each one is such a treasure I don’t mind.

This cuphea is a stalwart in the garden, coming back year after year to brighten proceedings.
