Tree Watch – Naked Beech

Not in a rush to clothe itself, the copper beech still stands proud in its nakedness.  I examined the buds today, they are squeezed tight shut.  There is no hurry to expose the soft new leaves, I’m sure it can remember the searing, scorching winds that come from the north east to nip at the delicate new growth.  Just another few days perhaps; this warm sun is sure to tempt them out.

  1. I’m wondering how much the lack of rain is affecting the trees. Some plants round here are clearly behind – despite the sun.

  2. My southern beech in E Devon is braver and definitely more foolish with the returning frosts this week!
