Deceitful Penstemon

This is one of a divers assortment of Penstemon “True Blue” we naively raised from seed last year.  I tried to call the suppliers to stamp my foot at the obvious inaccuracy of the description but got caught in one of those Miltonian purgatory loops (press one for nervous breakdown).  This squat bi-colour flower, giving no indication of either being “blue”, true or otherwise, or slowing down for the winter, is probably better than this so-called “True Blue” was ever going to be.  I think justice has been served.

This reminds me of a friend’s little brother who got very excited at the sight of the giant box of cornflakes his mother had just brought home believing that it would be full of giant cornflakes.  The first of many disappointments I would imagine.
