Tentative – NW Day Four

Although it is snug and warm below a safety blanket of crisp parrotia leaves this peony is impatient to unfurl into spring.  I had almost forgotten she was there, then my eye was caught by this bloody hand emerging somewhat ominously from below, bringing with it the promise of heavy cups of deep scarlet.   It is always a special treat to rediscover a forgotten friend.  It goes to prove what they say, you just can’t keep a good peony down.

  1. For me, this is a highlight of the gardening year: noticing the intense red of peony shoots making their appearance.
