Lobelia tupa – Tabaco del Diablo

Lobelia tupaThis exotic bloom is Lobelia tupa, a plant that has been on my Lust List for several years and one that has now come to fruition.  It over wintered outside  with only a barest hint of set back and although crowded by the Euphorbia x pasturi, or perhaps because of the shelter of, it is flowering well.  In its native Chile it is known as Tabaco del Diablo or the Devil’s Tobacco, due to its hallucinogenic properties.  The devil may have the leaves but the angels have the flowers.
