Sanguisorba obtusa – Japanese Burnett

SanguisorbaThis Sanguisorba obtusa is having a second wind; it flowered earlier in the season, was pruned heavily by Bambi and has now returned even more splendid than before.  Someone told me today that deer are especially partial to members of the Rosaceae family, and thinking about our experiences at Cliffe there may well be some truth in that.  It goes without saying that they have gorged on the roses, but other family members they have shown a preference for include geums, strawberries, raspberries and they absolutely adore potentilla.  To my knowledge and frustration, they have not however even nibbled a single bramble!
